Is there a way to view attendance as a counter, as in the number of times the student has been to class, versus a percentage?
Hi Dan Neubauer Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community! Unfortunately, the short answer is no insofar as a complete class count is concerned...but more on that later. The direct answer to your question for a specific, single student is that if you head to the Attendance page and hover your mouse over the More link next to any specific student's name, you can see a tally of what the student has in the course so far:
If you need a tally for the entire class, however, the only way to do it is to run a Roll Call Attendance report, as outlined here: How do I run Roll Call Attendance reports in a course? You will be emailed with a link to a CSV file, which can be opened in Excel or really any spreadsheet program. If you don't care for Excel much and you have a Google Drive account, a few months ago I wrote up a document and shared a Google Sheet that will do much of the work for you: Easy to Use Google Sheet for Interpreting Your Roll Call Attendance Report . You just have to copy and paste what you get on the CSV into your copy of the Google Sheet.
And since you're new to the Community, it may not surprise you to hear that the attendance feature has been a frequent topic of conversation. You can read over a lot of the things said here: Attendance Overhaul
I hope this helps a bit, Dan.
