I am glad that the red badge notifications are now showing up on the Canvas app. However, I was wondering if there was a way to have the badge indicate how many MESSAGES I have vs. the # of items to be graded?
Hello there, Maureen Keller...
In reading through your question, I assume that you are referring to the Canvas Teacher app, correct? If so, I tested this out by logging in to my own sandbox course as a dummy student and first submitting an assignment and then I signed in as a couple other dummy students to sent a message via the Canvas Inbox. I received notifications via text message (because that's how my notifications are set up) and also via the Canvas Teacher app. When I opened the Canvas Teacher app on my iPhone, I saw the following:
The "To Do" and "Inbox" icons should be able to separately tell you how many assignments you have yet to grade or how many new messages you have to look at.
I hope this helps to answer your question, but if not, please come back to help clarify so that Community members can continue to assist you. Thanks!
Hi Maureen Keller -
Right now, the Canvas Teacher app badge (as seen from your home screen) will only count items in your To-Do List. If you'd like the option to only see the count in your Conversations Inbox, it would be a new idea! (How does the feature idea process work?)
Just to share: in Canvas Mobile Users Group, Super Panda made a recent calling for discussion, focusing on ways the mobile apps could be improved. Check out Mission: Feature Idea Development and feel free to participate! I believe Super Panda is still looking for awesome ideas and awarding prizes.
Maureen -- I wanted to circle back to this discussion because I provided some innacurate information. The badge on your iOS app counts a combination of the items in your To-Do List and the unread messages in your Conversations Inbox, not just the items in your To-Do List.
