I'm trying to write formula questions for my engineering class, and I'm working with fairly large input values. For example, one input variable in my current quiz over stress-strain calculations is 65,000 psi.

I want the quiz to involve formulas so that the psi changes for each student, but I don't want it to vary down to the ones digit (for purposes of significant figures, etc.). In other words, I don't want 64,303 psi to show up in a problem.

**Can I set up a list of potential input variables and then have the formula randomly choose one of these to use? **

Example:

Options for input for psi: 50,000 / 55,000 / 60,000 / 65,000 / 70,000

Set up a formula to choose one of those 5 specific values.

I've done this in ExamView for years, but I don't know how to do it within Canvas. Thanks in advance!

Brett,

This is not currently possible, although several have commented about in the past and some feature ideas have surfaced related to it.

In general, sig figs is not treated well either.

You can create separate problems for each value and then put them in a question group so that one of them is chosen.

Another way you can do it is to fake the 000 at the end.

There are [psi],000 psi and then let psi go from 50 to 70 with 0 decimals. You'll still get things like 53, but not 53,027

You can also use units: [psi] kpsi or [psi] thousand psi.
