Hi - Is there a way to restrict students from creating their own student groups? students groups
It would seem even though the Manage (create / edit / delete) groups permission is marked as disabled for the students and can not be changed that that permission might not be functioning as intended. May want to submit a support ticket to see if that functionality is broken.
The work around I have found is to remove the people tab from the left-hand navigation list. By removing the peoples tab it eliminates them from being able to see who's in the class as well as create their own student groups.
Lindsay, yes, there is! If you go to the course, click on Settings, and then scroll down and click on "more options." What comes up are additional options, including the option to allow students to create groups. Just uncheck the box and then save and you're good to go!
Do you know if that option overrides the Manage (create / edit / delete) groups permission for the student role? Because in permissions for the student role that permission is defaulted to be disabled and does not allow even admins to change it.
