Add the external link icon to an LTI-generated link

Hi Canvas Community,

Does anyone know of a way to add the external link icon to a link which should include the icon, but doesn't?

The situation is, we use an LTI to add external links to our Canvas pages. The LTI is to a third-party content management system (Equella). The nature of the LTI configuration means Canvas identifies these links as internal, not external.

This is what our external links look like in the HTML editor:

<a title="Link title" href="https://myinstitution.instructure.com/courses/7068/external_tools/retrieve?display=borderless&url=https://Equella.com/attachment.uuid/555" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Link display text</a></p>

Would anyone know a way - e.g. changing the global css or the LTI configuration - to add the external link icon to these links so we can improve their accessibility?

Thank you.
