How to measure success with Canvas?

We have used Canvas for a year now. It's been wonderful. There are a lot of files, and discussions, and assignments created in Canvas in the last year. We do have sub accounts so we can compare how they are doing.

We are still trying to give students a better digital learning experience, and would like to be able to measure this. The problem is that we don't really know what metrics we should use.

What does

  • The amount of views
  • Files
  • Announcements
  • Assignments
  • Discussion topics
  • ...

say about the quality of our Canvas courses.

We don't use Canvas data yet, because the setup seems to be complicated, so we are stuck to the analytics in Canvas and the account reports.

How do you measure succes? What metrics do you use? Do you compare them year over year?
