How do I get a "carriage return" or "paragraph" in the math editor?

I am unable to find a way to get the math editor to drop down to the next line.

Although it was written for a student trying to duplicate what the instructor had shown, the technical answer is the same no matter whether you're an instructor or a student.

The short version is go to advanced mode and use \\ at the end of a line. A better answer is that most of the time, you do not want newlines in basic math content and you should probably create separate objects for each equation.

If you really think you need new lines, you might consider looking into the different LaTeX environments that are available like (this is a sampling) array, cases, align, or one of the matrix environments. If one of those environments isn't a better solution, you can fall back to using the \\
