I am viewing student submissions in doc viewer and I'm unable to put comments or any other in-text notes for the students to see like I am normally able to do. Any suggestions? Screen shot attached.
Hi Anthony, and Welcome to the Canvas Community!
I tried to replicate your same 'Assignment' construct working in Chrome, as shown in your screenshot, submitting a .docx file as shown in yours. I've included a screenshot of the results that I get, which shows the 'annotation tools' on the top right... see below.
What version of Chrome are you using? Make sure Chrome is current, and don't overlook the tried and true 'full reboot'... let me know if I missed anything!
Hi Anthony We have also experienced problems over the past week with the annotations bar (shown in the screenshot that Earl posted) disappearing in the Speedgrader. It seems to be a bug with the new anonymous grading feature that was rolled out recently. Although this is a beta feature and we hadn't actually enabled it at system level, it seems to have been applied to some of our existing assignments anyway. We logged a support ticket and the advice we got from Instructure was rather complicated but did fix the problem for the one particular assignment I was dealing with. The steps we followed were to turn on the anonymous grading beta feature at system level - this needs to be done by an admin. Then go into the assignment settings for the affected assignment and untick the option that says "Hide student names in Speedgrader". This checkbox won't be visible unless you have the feature turned on at system level but the option might have been applied to your assignment anyway, so you need to turn on the system feature before you can turn it off on the assignment. Once you've changed it in the assignment settings you can disable the feature at system level again. As I said, this is very complicated and unfortunately needs to be done for each affected assignment in turn, and there's no way of knowing how many assignments will need to be fixed. Before trying any of this I recommend that you log a ticket with Instructure support, if you haven't done so already, as they might have come up with a quicker fix by now. I have been told that engineers are aware of the bug and are working on it.
