Looking for ideas on how to weight my assessments in my course.

Currently it only gives me the option to weight the final grade based on assignment groups.

What i would like to do is to weight the assignments to a subject. Eg I have a subject called design. In it there are 3 assignments. One is weighted at 20% of the subject, one at 30% and one at 50% of the subject. The marks for all the 3 assignment combined would be weighted at 100% of the whole subject.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Ilana, I'm not sure if I'm missing something or not, but why couldn't you group your assignments by subject? Do you have more than one subject in each course? Given the information you provided (and from how I understand it) it seems like you could have an assignment group for each assignment and then weight it as needed. Yet, if you have more than one subject per course, then you have two options that I can think of.

Option 1: Have an assignment group for each subject (weight them equally or as needed). Within each assignment group (subject) you would set the number of points for each assignment so that they were worth 20%, 30%, & 50% of the assignment group/subject. Ex: Design Assignment Group: Assignment 1 = 40pts, Assignment 2 = 60pts, Assignment 3 = 100 points.

Option 2: Figure out the overall weight for each individual assignment in the course - regardless of the Subject. Ex: if you have 4 equally weighted subjects (each subject is worth 25% of the total course grade), you would then figure out what percent each assignment was worth for the overall course. So for the Assignment that's worth 50% of a subject (that's worth 25%), it would get put in it's own Assignment group worth 12.5%

Sorry if this seems a little confusing, but without knowing all the information it was hard to provide examples. If you provide more details about your course assignments and how they are organized I'm pretty sure we can help you figure something out!
