How do i start a new disscuion template for submission in a group board?
Hi Jaleesha Bryant Welcome to the Canvas Community, and you ask a good question because while it's easy enough to figure out how to create a course-wide Discussion in a class, it's not as easy to figure out how to do a group discussion.
Canvas makes it easy because you can start the process on the main class Discussions page, but making sure you enable the all-important "This is a group discussion" checkbox. The online instructor's guide gives very detailed information on this process here: How do I assign a graded discussion to a course group? Please note that you can indeed leave the "Assign to" area set to "Everyone" and Canvas will assign the exact same Discussion topic/prompt that you posted to place it in each group. On the other hand, if you wanted to create a different prompt in each group, you will want to follow the instructions under the "Assign to Group" heading.
When the time comes to dive into each group to see how they're doing, you will want to know how to how to access each group, which is covered here: How do I view content and student activity within a group as an instructor?
I hope this helps, Jaleesha!
