I am trying to export student responses in a Canvas Discussion post for import into NVivo (qualitative analysis software). Does anyone know how this can be done or have a code that can do this? Thank you all so much in advance.
Hi Marissa Bellino - Unfortunately, the direct answer is "no," and this has come up quite a bit in the past. The idea is on the Product Radar, however (without an ETA), and is still available to be voted upon to make your voice heard: Download discussion board posts
That said, if you look at this reply, fellow Canvas user Markus Kreitzer posted a possible work-around, though I fully admit that I have not tried this myself. If you are comfortable working with JSON output, it may be worth a try.
Along the line of importing to another software, is there a way to import the discussion responses back into Canvas? I have a faculty member that is teaching a course that has the same discussion assignment in two separate courses however, the second course is a continuation of the first and he would like to be able to capture the initial dialogue in the discussion to then have students add additional responses to the original (having the initial responses "live") when additional content is provided.
Anything like this even remotely possible?
