how do I add students to the group I made for a discussion board
Hi Tammie and welcome to the Canvas Community!
The process with groups is: Create a Group Set, create the groups within the group set and add students. There a number of ways to add students from automatically to manually. I am assuming you have already created the group set and the groups. If not, check out these Canvas Guide pages:
How do I add a group set in a course?
How do I automatically create groups in a group set?
How do I manually create groups in a group set?
As far as adding students, check out these guides:
How do I automatically assign students to groups?
How do I manually assign students to groups?
I hope this helps and please let us know if you need any further assistance.
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I have a discussion group and have set up the group sets and groups. i went to student view to see if the student would be able to see the replies of their classmates and it is blank. How do I enable the students to see the replies of other students to the question?
Thanks for the help!
Unfortunately, using the student view option doesn't work in groups as, from what I can tell, can't be added to a group. In this case you need to trust that Canvas is working as expected. If you look at the membership for a group, any student in that list will be able to see the discussion questions. Know that only members of a group will be able to see that content, so if you want to do group work and then share it with the rest of the class, groups isn't necessarily the best way to go about it, unless you have somebody copy and paste to a course wide group so the rest of the class can see what is happening. Hope this helps!
