How do I delete assignments from the syllabus page
Hi Cassie Landers Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community, and your question is one that does indeed come up from time to time. The short answer is that you cannot remove them, but keep reading for ways around this! This Syllabus page is regarded as one of the really cool features in Canvas, because any assignments that you create are automatically added there for the benefit of students. It's like having an automatically created course calendar. You can read more about it here: How do I use the Syllabus as an instructor?
But to address your concern, first of all, use the Student View to see how students see the Syllabus currently. You may be pleasantly surprised! Unlike in your view, the students are only seeing published assignments, whereas as the instructor you see every assignment on Syllabus, both published and unpublished. So what may be appearing as extremely long to you right now may not be for students if you have not yet published the assignment.
Also, if you are creating assignments worth 0 points as a reminder for students to do (for example) course readings, consider using the Type: drop-down menu for such an assignment and setting it to be Ungraded. There are more details here: What assignment types can I create in a course? This will keep the assignment from adding a column to your gradebook, BUT it will continue showing it for students on the Syllabus page as something that you consider to be important. So while--yes--it will add to your Syllabus page and not lessen the list, it won't add a column to your gradebook. (I realize you were not asking about your gradebook, specifically, but I thought I would point out that feature to you since that also comes up from time to time.)
Hope this helps a bit, Cassie!
