I have files I want my students to access. I created folders under the "file" link, but my students are not able to see them. How can I add folders my students can access?
Hi Theresa and welcome to the Canvas Community! I just checked in my sandbox course and students are able to view files I loaded into the files menu of my course if they are within other folders. Is the Files tab enabled in your class? To check this you can go to the Settings tab and navigation. If the Files tab is toward the bottom under the disabled navigation tab section, you can drag it up into the enabled tab area or enable it by clicking the three dots and selecting "enable". I would also check that each file is published.
These are the first things I would check but if the tab is enabled and the files are published, but students are still not able to see the files, you could check and see if there are any other restrictions on the files themselves (see How do I restrict files and folders to students in Canvas? ).
I hope this helps but if you are still having trouble, let us know!
Thank you for the email. Your directions worked.
Hello Theresa Walker...
Eric Werth has given you some great help here, and I'll be marking his answer as "Correct". In case you wanted to also refer to the Guide about re-arranging course menu options (as Eric has described above), that link is: How do I manage Course Navigation links?. (Note: I found this by clicking on the "Guides" menu at the top of any page here in the Community and then selecting "Canvas". Then choose "INSTRUCTOR", and then select "Course Navigation". Finally, click on "How do I manage Course Navigation links?".) Hope this helps, Theresa.
