I am trying to use the self sign-up feature to manage my groups, but in student view, I cannot join any of the groups and I see the message that groups are not available at this time.

Second, it looks like you have stumped the Canvas Community. Were you able to find an answer to your question? Hi Mahsa! From my testing, it seems that the Canvas test students (the role you're using when you view the course in student view) aren't allowed access to joining groups because they aren't really students. My guess is that logically Canvas wants to avoid the issue of having a group that should have a certain amount of students but instead has less because the test student joined the group.
