Is there a way I can comment on a particular posting in a Discussion, or am I only able to do this as part of a grade submission?
#About feedback in a discussion
Hi Courtney Marlaire Welcome to the Canvas Community, and I'm afraid your suspicion is correct: you can only leave a private comment to a student as part of a graded discussion. (I'm assuming you want this comment to be private; otherwise you can just comment in the Discussion itself, though everyone would see it then.)
The only alternative in this case is to message the student either through your institution's email or through the Canvas Inbox (see How do I send a message to a user in a course in Conversations as an instructor? ), though be aware that, in theory, a student could choose to disable notifications from Conversations and may not see it unless they specifically checked their Canvas Inbox.
I hope this helps a bit, Courtney!
I actually have a similar question. I have set up discussions where students write their ideas and I want to give one feedback to the entire group. I have done this but I think my comments get lost in the thread so I would like my comments to be pinned to the top of the discussion thread. Is there a way to do this?
