How can I access the grades from a previous semester to calculate a grade of a student who had an incomplete. Once the semester is over, I am not able to access the course.
Leticia - When a course ends based on the course settings, it will disappear from your Dashboard. You may locate those completed courses using the Course link in the Global Navigation Bar. Click on the "All Courses" area and you will see all courses you have ever been enrolled in. Check our this Canvas guide: How do I view all my Canvas courses as a student? The process for an instructor is the same.
Thank you for your response. I have done this but I do not have access to the gradebook- that is I cannot click and open it. Do you know how to access the grades at that point?
Chances are that the course is ended. You can check this in the “Settings” page in the Course Menu. Check the course end date. You may or may not have permission to change the course end date. If you are not able to do that, you will need to contact your local Canvas administrative team to change the setting.
If this is not the issue, the close dates may be controlled by the Term settings, which is also controlled by your local Canvas administrator.
Hope this helps! Nancy
When you access the course using the method Nancy suggested (going to your list of courses and clicking on "all courses"), navigate to the gradebook. Once you're in the grades tab, you should see a small gear icon on the right-hand side beneath "Individual View." If you click the gear icon and select "Show concluded enrollments" from the drop-down menu, you should be able to see grades for concluded courses.
Disclaimer: This works at my institution, but your instance of Canvas may be configured differently. If you don't see the "show concluded enrollments" option, contact your LMS admin!
