Canvas Inbox Messaging

Last year and into the summer, I used the inbox in Canvas to communicate with my students. It worked really well. Unfortunately, this semester, the inbox doesn't seem to be functioning properly. I've sent three messages with no luck. One of my students also tried sending me a message through the inbox and that didn't work either. It's nowhere to be found. I have "notify me right away" turned on for every option under "Conversation" and, as mentioned, have used the inbox successfully in the past. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be going on?
