I am trying to use my apple macbook and safari to access and view the learning module. I can open the window and hear sound but none of the images display.
Does the LMS require custom plugins or a specific web browser?
Canvas itself should work fine with Safari; as long as you are using one of the last two releases of Safari. Below is a page about supported browsers.
Which browsers does Canvas support?
Add actually that page is out of date as of yesterday since MacOS 10.14 was just released and now the current version of Safari is 12. With Safari, the browser version is tied to the operating system so if you don't have your computer OS up to date, the browser likely isn't either.
I personally prefer to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Both of those browsers generally keep themselves up to date independently of the computer operating system.
Having said all of that; I'm not sure what the issue might be with what you are describing. It could be browser related or possibly something not set up correctly in the course. Additional Plugins would only be required if the content added by the instructor required it; and we really don't have any way to look at the content and see.
If trying a different browser doesn't work I suggest you click the Help button on the left side of Canvas and use the Report a Problem link to open a ticket with Canvas support. They can look more specifically at the course content to assist with seeing what the issue might be.
