As a teacher, how can I upload one file to go to each of my 13 student's e portfolio. The same way we can upload one file under announcements or discussions. I want to be able to upload a file for all of my students at the same time.
Hi Jessi Kohl Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community. Unfortunately, there is not a way to do this. Even myself, as a Canvas administrator, could not do this. (Unless there is some programming/API trick I don't know about, though I doubt it with ePortfolios, frankly.)
What you would have to do is make the file available in your Files area of your course site, assuming your Files area is available to students. Students can then add the file to their own personal file space within Canvas by following the steps here: How do I move and organize files as a student?
I just tried this, in fact, on a sample student account that I have enrolled in a class. That student logs in, heads to Account>>Files and they can click-and-drag a file directly from my course files into their personal files, as shown here. Note the Black_Pract_Sept18 is a class that the student is enrolled in, where they can see the files. (Again, this assumes the Files menu area is accessible to students). The screen capture shows the student clicking-and-dragging the course syllabus into his My Files area:
Then, by heading into their Canvas ePortfolio, the student can add the Image/File Upload placeholder on a page, as outlined in How do I upload a file or image to my ePortfolio page as a student? and add the file. Here is a screen capture of my sample student doing just that:
So, this does involve a few steps, I'm afraid.
You may find it easier just to ask students to download the file from your course site and upload it to their ePortfolios. I just wanted to point out that students can do this on their own from within the Canvas environment from their Account menu link if they wanted to.
I hope this helps a bit, Jessi, even if it doesn't fully do what you would like it to do!
