Hi Gina Priddy and Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community! Unfortunately, this is an issue that pops up for many people from time to time--both from students like yourself as well as from faculty, who will often spend a lot of time typing things into the rich content editor, only to accidentally leave the page somehow and find their work has vanished into the internet ether. (By the way, the text window that you are typing answers into within Canvas is universally known as the "rich content editor." There is an online lesson regarding it starting here: How do I add and modify text in the Rich Content Editor as a student? ) There is an existing feature idea in the Community that you can still vote up here: Auto Save in Rich Content Editor . Unfortunately, if you scroll down, you will see that there is really no firm timetable for its appearance.
In the meantime, many of us have learned to type things out in something like a Word document or really any simple text editor one has handy on their computer or smartphone, save it, and then copy-and-paste into the text editor. Yes, it's clunky and yes, we don't always think of it (myself included), but I'm afraid it's about the best you can do at the moment until the feature is more widely introduced within Canvas.
I hope this helps a bit, Gina. Good luck in your class(es)!
