Is it possible to make the quiz questions available to the entire class once the deadline for submission has passed?
This feature does not exist within the legacy version of Canvas quizzes. Note that the ability to see the correct responses is a sub-item under the let students see their quiz responses. (emphasis mine).
If they don't have a quiz response because they didn't take the quiz, then there is nothing for them to see.
Some faculty have asked about this ability in the past and there may have been some feature ideas related to it, but it never went anywhere.
When I had a student ask me last week if they could see the questions on the quiz that they hadn't taken, my option was to go into the quiz, do a preview, and print it to a PDF file. Then I sent the PDF file to her as an attachment. That doesn't provide the correct answers, just the questions.
A second option is to re-open the quiz for the students who didn't take it the first time. One definite problem that makes this approach less than ideal is that you'll have to go back in and change the grade for anyone who takes it after the original deadline. If you're afraid you'll lose the original scores, you can export the gradebook before you open up the quiz back up so that it keeps the original scores. Strip out all of the columns for other assignments beside that quiz and then import it back into the gradebook after you're done letting students submit the assignment.
Hi Brian and Welcome to the Canvas Community!
Absolutely, and you can learn more at What options can I set in a quiz? You can even set a date and time when the correct answers become visible and when they are again hidden.
I hope this helps,
Hi there -- I think my initial question wasn't clear. Can I open the quiz to the entire class even to the students who haven't taken the quiz once a deadline has passed? My exams are made up of quiz questions and I'd like the students who did not take the quiz during its availability window to see the questions that will be appearing on the exam. I don't see any option in the quiz that allows this to happen.
Thanks for any specific help.
Hi James -- That is the exact information I was looking for and matched what I'd found by exploring the options in Canvas. Thank you for your time.

It is really disappointing that a feature does not exist to allow students to see questions after a deadline or do practice attempts. This is a very common feature in nearly every other online assessment system I've used. Why would I want to (A) give students a PDF of my questions, or (B) have to deal with trying to manage late assignment scores by hand with hundreds of students. As for the PDF, the questions never print correctly, or you have to go page by page to print them.
Honestly, what is the point of having a deadline if all they system does is say it is "late" and no option exists to apply a penalty. I was hoping to use Canvas for most of my grading/assessment, but I've become increasingly frustrated with the lack of flexibility when it comes to how assignments/quizzes appear to students and how/when they get graded.
