How can I retrieve the info I have been working on for a discussion assignment in canvas? It somehow erased what I just typed in!!!!!!
Unfortunately, if you were typing the post directly into Canvas (as opposed to a Word document), it's almost certainly gone. Canvas doesn't have autosave capability in the Rich Content Editor, which is used for discussion posts or essay questions on quizzes.
There are some add-ins for browsers that autosave form content for you, but those need to be installed and running before you've lost the content, so they wouldn't help in this case. The one recommended in November 2017 in this thread Discussion Replies Autosaved? is no longer on the Chrome store, but you could do a search for form recovery and possibly find something.
There is a feature idea for autosave Auto Save in Rich Content Editor , where Canvas has said, in undated and confusing language, that it's not happening anytime soon. A related feature request is Warn before leaving unsaved item, which is not in the top 10% of feature ideas and may get archived.
There are also some Tips for Students Writing Discussion Posts that can help minimize the frustration in the future.
Hello Kandi Lovins Welcome to the Canvas Community. Thank you for posting your question. I think the best thing for you to do in a situation like this is to contact the Canvas Help Desk staff to see if they might be able to assist. You can find their contact info by looking through this Guide: How do I get help with Canvas as a student?.
You also posted a very similar question here: How do I retrieve lost info in discussion board. Since these two questions seem to be so similar, I am going to lock that discussion topic and direct everyone to this question...so that we can keep all conversations in one location. I hope that's okay with you, Kandi.
Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. This is certainly disheartening. Lesson learned.
