I want to record a student's total points level as I (Incomplete) in Canvas, but I don't know how to set the grade level I. The gradebook just calculates the total points automatically. Thanks!
Hi Wei Wei Welcome to the Canvas Community! Unfortunately, there is not a real good way to do this. This has come up before in this very Community, such as here: Incomplete Grades . Canvas, by its very nature, will calculate grades in an ongoing manner throughout the term, and being a percentage-based system based with the assignments in the gradebook, Canvas does not "know" that a grade is incomplete since it is either ungraded (the default dash symbol), excused (EX) or graded. As that discussion I linked to above notes, this can indeed be tricky if your grades in Canvas are automatically sent to a student information system (SIS) that records the grades, so this is something that will have to be worked out at your institution.
Basically, there is little you can do other than inform your school that the student's grade is considered incomplete and also, of course, notify the student of this and to ignore the letter grade the student currently sees in Canvas.
I hope this helps a bit, even if it does not provide a full answer for you.
