How can I recover a module that was accidentally deleted.
Hi Gary Wolgamott welcome to the community, we're glad you came here for help. There is a way to undelete anything you have in a course actually. All you have to do is type undelete at the end of your course code in the URL and it allows you to bring back any module, assignment, quiz, etc. Here is an example of what you would need to type in: https://davistech.instruction.com/courses/444444/undelete
I used my instance as an example but go to the course you are in and simply type "undelete" at the end of it.
Gary, we are here to help! You can't fully restore a Module with just a click (or two), but the longer answer is you CAN however recover most if not all of the content and submissions (Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes) that were in the Module and then recreate it.
The first thing to check is if you deleted the actual content that was in the Module. Deleting a module doesn't delete the pages, assignments, quizzes, or discussions, it just removes the Module name and structure from your course. Thus if you just deleted the Module, the content is all still there and you can just re-add the Module (name) and then re-add all the content that would still be there in your course, just under Pages, Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes. If you're not sure exactly what content was in the Module (and you deleted it recently - so since Sunday) you could go to your Canvas Test environment to see how it looked before it was deleted - How do I access the Canvas test environment as an instructor?
If you accidentally deleted all the content in your Module, as well as your Module, the first step is getting the content back. To do this go to your course home page and add /undelete to the ULR. For example this is how it would look for my class - https://richland.instructure.com/courses/245433364506/undelete . On the page that comes up you can then view items that have been recently deleted and choose which to "Restore." Once you're done, the content you've restored will be back in your course. The only issue is that it won't be back in the Module. The second step is that you would then need to go to your Modules page and create the name of the Module (that was deleted) and then add the content you just restored back to the Module.
I hope this helps! Kona
Hi there, Gary Wolgamott...
Both Tim Maw and Kona Jones have pretty much given you the best advice to try the "undelete" trick to see if you can recover your modules for your course. I'm hoping you've had time to try this out since you first posted your question. I wanted to also provide you with a blog link by Shaun Holland called Undeleting things in Canvas. You can find this blog over in the Canvas Admins group here in the Community. If you are not following this group right now, use the group link that I have provided, and then click on the "Follow" button at the top right corner of the screen. There will also be an "Actions" button next to the "Follow" button. Click "Actions" and then "Join group". I hope this will be of help to you, Gary.
