what is the point of Ecampus?
Hi dom lew , and dom lew Welcome to the Canvas Community!
eCampus is not a Canvas product. It is a cloud-based textbook service that can be integrated with Canvas. I would suggest talking with your Canvas Admin/Support Department at your school. They can tell you what their gol for this integration was. Typically though, an eCampus integration can be used by faculty to review and adopt textbooks, and by students to purchase them. Several of the big textbook providers have similar tool. Our campus has an integration with Barnes & Noble that does all that.
One thing to note that you might like is that these services are course specific, because it is textbooks. So, most of them add one or more course menu options in your Canvas courses. If you don't want to use it, aren't required to use it, and your students don't need it - then hide those course links and forget about them. That's what many of our faculty do the the five Barnes & Noble links their integration dumped into our classrooms.
Maybe some Community folks who have it on their campus will chime in with more specific details.
Hello dom lew Thank You for posting your question. Looking at your profile here in the Canvas Community, it appears that you are coming from Seminole County Public Schools in Florida. Assuming this is the case, I visited your school's website, and it appears that they have re-branded the Canvas name as "eCampus". I am basing this assumption on the following website: https://www.scps.k12.fl.us/district/departments/information-services/digital-resources/ecampus.stml. For the purposes of my response, I'll be referring to Canvas rather than "eCampus". Canvas is a LMS (Learning Management System) developed by Instructure. The Canvas LMS is a platform where you can take classes online (curriculum usually provided by your school), interact with your instructor(s) and fellow classmates, complete activities, submit assignments, and much more. There are a bunch of "basics" Guides you can look through here: Canvas Basics Guide - Table of Contents. Also, there are some great video Guides here: Guides: Video (look under the "Students" heading). Hopefully, this will get you started on some of the basics of Canvas and what features are available. I hope this will be of help to you, Dom.
