Hello, Has any one setup a Quiz that involves completing a Truth Table used for digital logic? I haven't found a good way for Canvas Quiz to implement this feature. thanks, Glen
Hi GlenI've never tried this before but the first idea that comes to mind is a "multiple dropdowns" question. You could create a table using the rich content editor and have one dropdown box for each row in your table, with the dropdowns having the options 0/1 or TRUE/FALSE. This is what it would look like in the editor when creating the question for a very simple truth table:
When the student answers the question, this is what they see:
Thank you for your reply.
I thought of doing what you suggested; However, the truth table I need to create is 17 rows (4 inputs) and two output (six columns) states. So it would be to cumbersome to implement. Instead for this assignment I'll just have students attach their work for grading. Will have to do for now.
It is surprising to me that Canvas does not have a better online method of implementing Truth Tables for Digitial Logic online classes. I will ping their developers about this feature.
If you come across other methods to implement this , please let me know
thanks for your feedback and happy holidays,
I would use H5Ps drag and drop feature allowing multiple items to be dropped on to the same zone. It would take a little while to set up but has the benefit of being embedded on a page or as a link - although H5P is not part of Canvas. I have done similar when doing chemical formula questions
If you dropped me an image of what you were trying to do I could mock one up for you or you could check out www.H5P.com or the post H5P - Free Interactive Content Creation with HTML5
Thanks for your feedback. This H5P site looks interesting. Might be over kill for what I'm trying to do. I ended up linking an attached xcel file that students can complete the truth table and then take a snapshot and past to Canvas essay as a pci. (png or gif) file. I then can grade manually.
Attached is an example of a truth table for a logic problem.
Canvas doesn't have the capability where I can create a truth table and then have students fill in the outputs with 1s or Os. Having drop downs for 80 inputs is not realistic.
Any suggestions is appreciated.
