I forgot to enable TurnItIn on an assignement. The papers are in. I see obvious plargarism and want a similarity score. Can I run these two papers through TurnItIn via Canvas, now, after they have been submitted?
Hi Lisa Tromovitch Welcome to the Canvas Community. Basically, no. While the LTI version of Turnitin allows an instructor to re-submit an assignment (as detailed here: Resubmitting on Behalf of a Student - Guides.turnitin.com ) you cannot submit an assignment when that assignment was not initially created as a Turnitin assignment.
What I have done for my own faculty in such cases is created a separate course where I have some assignments already with various Turnitin settings and then enroll them as "students" to submit such items. (Obviously, the assignment is set up so that the "student" sees the score right away.) If you have two such assignments, however, that will require two separate "student" accounts...one for each submission. Your Canvas administrator might be willing to do this. (I do not "advertise" this service because it's obviously intended only for special cases like this and the administrator must create the student accounts first.)
You might also want to check into your institutions Turnitin subscription services. They might have a subscription, as well, to the web-based service where faculty can submit papers.
I hope this helps a bit, Lisa.
