What is the difference between a TA, and Observer and a Designer? I want to add other faculty in my program so they can see my courses but I do not want them to be able to change anything. Do I add them as an Observer or a TA?
While these roles have default permission set within Canvas, Canvas does allow some leeway for schools to change permissions associated with each role. I would recommend reaching out to your Canvas Admins to get a better understanding on what each role allows a user to be able to do if assigned to that role within your course.
Normally the Observer role is the most locked down role and only gives the user the ability to see what's in the course, but not change anything. But it can also be too restrictive out of the box depending on what you're wanting them to see in your course.
Hello, Kellee Rickerl Welcome to the Canvas Community! Brian is correct that this is a matter best pursued directly with your school's Canvas admins. Our community members can give you general information* about the default permissions associated with each role, but the school may well have customized those permissions.
