Hi I am relearning the dashboard and I have posted my discussion question as a word document how can i delete that post and put in correctly?

The ability for students to edit and/or delete their own discussion postings is a course permission that the instructor has to manually turn on or off. You can see what this looks like in the following instructor Guide:

How do I allow students to edit and delete their own discussion posts in a course?
There may be reasons why your instructor would allow or not allow you to edit/delete your own discussion posts, so you'd want to check with your instructor to see if he/she would be willing to turn that feature on for you and your classmates.
