Is it possible to hide student names in the new gradebook, leaving just the secondary info (SIS ID)?
Mike, I haven’t been using the new gradebook for very long, but I don’t believe this is possible. I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but you could download the grades and then strip out the name and only leave the secondary info. You could use this to view grades or to add grades to the sheet (and then upload back to the gradebook). You can also choose to hide names in Speedgrader if that helps.
Thanks for that Kona. Yes I suppose I was hoping for a way of recreating the spreadsheet without having to export and reimport the grades especially around inputting exam marks.
When I first glanced at this, I was reminded of the old-school solution to the permissions problems. It was so bad that some people taped column headers to their monitor so they could keep track of the columns after scrolling. I thought that hiding the names could be accomplished by taping a piece of paper over them.
Then I saw the explanation about trying to recreate the spreadsheet and realized that wouldn't work.
Recreating the spreadsheet without exporting it involves downloading all of the submission information using the Canvas REST API. There have been several threads in the Community about how to do that.
If you're a programmer or know one who owes you a favor, you might be able to take that approach, but for most users who just need this sporadically, it's simpler to just download the gradebook and remove the information that you don't want. The API approach might be useful if you're trying to download grades automatically, perhaps so they can feed another system.
The only way I found is by switching to the Individual view, the option is there
