Hi, can you give any examples or ideas of a good learning name for our Canvas site? i.e Learning Space, SchoolBook, eBook like that. Thank you.
De La Salle Canvas
Canvas at De La Salle
I am never in favor of branding that hides the actual product name. We have seen many examples in this Community where doing so has created confusion. For example: user asks, "I need help with FlashDance". Community responds, "Sorry, FlashDance is not a Canvas product, and you will need to ask for help with the FlashDance folks". Or "I have researched FlashDance and cannot find that product. Perhaps it is something built in-house, and you will need to talk to your school."
Or one of your faculty is seeking a job at another school (God forbid or good riddance), and the school asks, "Do you have Canvas Experience?"; "No, I have only taught using FlashDance".
And finally: Ernest, engaged, well-meaning, lifelong learner on faculty goes, "Hmmm........... I want to learn more about our new LMS, and I am going to Google it to learn more and get rolling with it faster!" And what do they find............
Wait for it.............................
Just a little more........................
Whammo, one more disenchanted user!
And from the KISS perspective, why not simply call it what it is - Canvas?
I’m not nearly as funny as Kelley, but I agree that for the sake of your faculty and your students, keep it simple and call it Canvas.
In the long run it will also make it a million times easier for YOU because you won’t have to recreate any of the help guides or video (which are AMAZING, but all labeled as “Canvas”).
