I'm wanting to revisit some of the readings and materials from last year's courses, can I retrieve these somehow?
Hi Robbie and welcome to the Community! If the course is no longer is on your dashboard and you would like it to be again, try going to "course" and "all courses". There is frequently a section for "past enrollments". If the course does not have the star beside it colored in, click on this and it should appear on your dashboard once more. The course can be removed from your dashboard the same way. Alternatively, you can continue to go to all courses and click on the course link to access the course without adding it to your dashboard. Provided your course is still not visible in the all courses tab, I would contact the Canvas support group at your institution to inquire about access.
If you are an instructor and you wish to use material from a previous course in a current class, this can be done as well. The best way to do this is to import content from the previous course using the process described here, How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import tool? You can copy the entire course or select particular content to import.
I hope this helps but let us know if you run into any problems!
That is brilliant Eric - thank you very much!
Any time! If something doesn't work as expected please update the thread and the folks in the Community can help figure out what is happening! ( :
Thanks for all the great responses on this and other topics!
Do you know how far back we can import/copy forward courses? Is there a limit after which we can no longer export/import a course?
Hi Andrew and my pleasure! This is a good question. I don't believe that any default in Canvas would prevent a faculty member from accessing courses to retrieve course material beyond a particular date after the class concludes, at least from the perspective of being able to go into a new course shell and copy in content from a previous class. However, each institution may have a policy regarding retention or archiving of courses after a certain amount of time. You probably would need to double check with someone at your institution to determine if a policy such as this exists or how it is implemented.
All the best!
