Limitations on the Course Link Validator

Hi friends,

We just had a report about a student being unable to access files that had been linked from an assignment, and it turned out the that published files were in an unpublished folder. This is an easy fix -- we moved the files from the unpublished folder to where they should have been.

However, I was surprised that the Course Link Validator that I had run on this Canvas site (both before the site was published, and during the course of troubleshooting this problem) didn't identify this problem.

I know that the Course Link Validator (How do I validate links in a course?) identifies links to unpublished content (like files and pages). But does it indicate if the container (a folder, or a module, for instance) is unpublished (and thus, the content is unreachable for students)?

I seem to recall that it used to provide this information before the recent updates, but my memory could be faulty here.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Best,

Linda
