I have a student who uploaded a file to the wrong folder. How do I take this assignment down so she can later submit the right file instead?
Have you moderated her assignment so she can have the 2nd chance?
You go to the assignment, and on the right-hand side is the box "Moderate This Quiz". Click here and then you'll find her name and be able to change the number of times she can do the assignment. Notice this is just for quizzes.
Hi Amy and welcome to the Canvas communityUnfortunately assignment submissions can't be deleted by students, teachers or even your local Canvas admin. A submission can only be deleted by an engineer from Instructure so you will need to log a support ticket asking them to do this, although my experience is that Instructure prefer the request to come from your college's Canvas administrator rather than from the course teacher. In most assignments students are normally able to submit multiple times so you could just ignore the first submission and ask the student to submit again to the correct place.
If you're using Turnitin then there is the added complication that as well as being stored in Canvas, the student's document will also be in Turnitin's repository. This means that if the student submits the file again to the correct place, it could get a high similarity matching as Turnitin will be comparing it against the original submission. If this happens, you could configure the Turnitin report to filter out matches against the original file, or you might want to contact Turnitin support and ask them to remove the file from their system. Requesting that Turnitin do this would involve a separate support ticket from the one you make to get it removed from Canvas, and again the ticket might need to be logged by your local admin.
Amy Brunell, depending on which version of Turnitin you are using it may be possible for you to delete the submission in Turnitin. If you are using the LTI version of Turnitin, you can visit the assignment, open Turnitin, and find an options link next to each submission. If you click the link, this will display the option to delete the submission in Turnitin and allow the student to resubmit -- if the due date in Turnitin is not passed or if Turnitin is set to accept late submissions. Although, Canvas will still have a copy of the first submission.
Here is the screenshot of the Turnitin inbox accessed through a Canvas assignment.
Please note that there are several versions of Turnitin of Canvas, so this may not be possible with the other versions, but it is possible with the LTI version.
I hope that helps!
