I have a professor who wants to create groups but wants all of their students to view what each group is doing? usually this is done in a discussion board.
As long as you don’t put anything in for the grade, so leave it blank, it won’t impact their grade. I haven’t tested it recently, so I’m not sure if you use EX (for excused) if this prevents students from viewing the discussion or not.
Selayoa, unfortunately "groups" in Canvas doesn't function this way. It's an all or nothing type thing. So either everyone can view and post, or only a few (in the group) can view and post. In the past when faculty have wanted to do this, we've created different discussions for each group and then asked students to only "post" to their discussion even though they can view all of them.
So how do you do this with different discussions for each group and not effect the points? for example:
Discussion 1 (mary, chris and mike) worth 10 points
Discussion 2 (sally, sam, and bob) worth 10 points
When Sally completes her discussion post in her board it gives her 10 points for Discussion 2. But a 0 for discussion 1.
Then it looks like she has not completed an assignment? and the points will not match up.
Thank you! I tried the EX and it seems to work but it also good to know leaving it blank does the same thing.
