Does anyone at ASU actually respond to questions about using this Canvas program? I have no idea what it is, why I need to use it, and why my course that starts March 11th is not listed.

Welcome Peter. I'd ask whomever you usually ask at ASU for technology help to help you with Canvas. Best of Luck!
Canvas is a great learning management system. You can put your notes, assignments, and even lead discussions through this tool. You can even have students take on-line tests that get graded for you! Once you get used to it, you'll probably love Canvas!
Thank you for your response, Jennifer. I did send a message to ASU Help Desk, they marked it Resolved, which it wasn't.
On the left-hand side of your dashboard, you will see a Courses button. Click on this button, and scroll down until you see "All Courses." Click on this link. If you see your March course listed, click the star in front of the course, and then you'll be able to see it on your dashboard. If you don't see it, then they don't have it assigned to you yet. :-)
Hi Peter and welcome to the Canvas Community. Great place filled with people happy to help and share.
You've come to the right place when you asked
I have no idea what it is, why I need to use it,
This gives a brief explanation and a short video about what Canvas is Canvas by Instructure
But most of all it depends on your needs. What do you want Canvas to do for you? You will need to know about some of the potential it can offer you and hopefully your institution can provide some training for you and your colleagues. If not, then there are some excellent resources to help you with that right here.
This one is particularly helpful Canvas FastTrack Series
And here is my take on having your purpose before embarking on using Canvas.
Horse Before the Cart. Purpose first, Canvas second.
