Can a student log into canvas, in spite of the school/College website being down.
Is there a common/generic URL to login to Canvas, that can be made available, outside of school websites.

https://myportal.NameOfCollege.edu/.../Canvas
Is https://canvas.instructure.co m /login/canvas a generic link, Can a student login and complete their homework.

I teach for two colleges, and am the Canvas admin for a third, and at all of those schools the students can log into Canvas using any device that can connect to the internet regardless of the status of the schools servers.
Canvas is a website - plain and simple, your own school's Canvas instance is a website. So for school who are hosted by Canvas, using the Canvas URL designated by your school will get users to the product.
The only exception would be schools that installed and hosted Canvas on their own servers.

Welcome to the Canvas Community! There is not a generic website for all Canvas courses; the URL is specific to the school. Some schools use the [yourschool].instructure.com configuration, whereas others use a vanity URL. Whether or not you are able to log into your Canvas courses when the school's authentication provider (website) is down depends on what provisions the school has made for its users. It's been my experience that many if not most schools do not provide a means for bypassing their authentication process.
