The menu is greyed out; I cannot access files
What is your role in the course? And what happens when you try to open the Files area?
When a menu item is "greyed out" in Canvas, it means that the menu item is not visible to students. However, teachers can still open it.
I also experience this in one of courses.Even though "Files" is enabled in the navigation of course settings, it's still grey & invisible to students.
Any thoughts what this could be?

A likely cause is that you have set your course to require usage rights for Files. From this guide How do I set usage rights and user access for a course file? , it states,
"If usage rights is enabled in your course, you have to set a usage right (copyright) for each file you upload to your course. Usage rights must be assigned to files before files can be published to the course. If a file or multiple files are located in a folder, you can set usage rights through folders. "
