Is it possible to set a due date for a peer review to be completed in the peer review option?
Hi David Armstrong...
I don't believe this is an option currently. I was looking through the Canvas Guides, and I found this one: How do I automatically assign peer reviews for an assignment?. However, as you can see from the Guide, the "Assign Reviews" date field has this description:
"In the Assign Reviews field, use the calendar icon to select a date or manually enter a date for when peer reviews will be assigned to students. The assign reviews date must come after the assignment due date. If left blank, Canvas will use the assignment due date."
Also, as I was looking through the Feature Ideas that have been submitted in the past, I came across this one: Have two due dates for peer review assignments. Unfortunately, it's been archived, but I think the comments from Instructure (the stuff below the light blue banner below David Woods' suggestion) is worth reading.
Hope this helps!
My experience, which prompted my Feature Idea, is that there actually IS a due date for completion of peer reviews, it's just not very clearly setup.
I had an assignment and used the "automatic assign" feature for distributing the peer reviews. With this, there is the "Assign Reviews" field, which doesn't have a clear explanation in the documentation. I guessed that this was when the reviews would be assigned - thinking that an instructor might want some time to look at student submissions before students were asked to do reviews. I didn't see a need for this, so set the "assign reviews" to immediately after the original assignment was due. This resulted in an e-mail from at least one student asking why they were given so little time to do these. Based on this, it appears that the "assign reviews" is actually a due date for the reviews.
The Have two due dates for peer review assignmentsHave two due dates for peer review assignments includes a post from Instructure with three things they took from discussions of Peer Reviews as the highest priority items and improving things around due dates is one.
Here are my testing testing results on Peer Review "Assign Review" date and assignment due date:
If an assignment has:
A due date of Feb 1, 1 pm
And a Assign Review date of Feb 1, 2 pm
The students will see who they are assigned to review at 2 pm.
If a peer review assignment has:
And a Assign Review date left blank, the students will see who they are assigned to review at 1 pm.
I can find nothing that would prevent a student from completing a peer review once they have been assigned. i.e. no peer review due date and time.
If an instructor set an Until date on the assignment itself, if the student clicks on the assignment, they can still see and submit their peer review.
(But could not submit assignment. So, if they had not submitted the assignment by the Until date, then they could not submit, and would not be assigned to do a peer review).

Did you happen to notice what due date was put on the reviews?
My observation and what students reported to me is that if I assigned a review date, that was when the students could see the reviews they needed to do, but was also shown as the time when the peer reviews were due. So, it looked like the peer reviews were due as soon as they were available.

Gregory Beyrer - Just out of curiosity, what documentation page is this linked from? I haven't seen this before, I don't think.
Hi Ken Black. I found that document linked from the page Peer Review Glitches: Canvas 101 for Instructors on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Canvas server. The link on that page is bad (points to the previous Canvas Guides server) so I did a Google search to find this one.
