All my classes are on dashboard but this semester there is no sandbox to experiment in
Hi colleen. Your best bet to get a sandbox set up would be to contact someone who supports Canvas at your institution. This website may have useful contact information, Faculty Support Home. At two of the institutions I have been at who used Canvas, IT played a role in ensuring that everyone who taught had a sandbox automatically created. This may be handled differently at your institution and may need to be done manually.
I hope this is helpful and best wishes!
Thank you , I did that immediately, but I was just checking to see if there were any other ways. Your time and answer is appreciated.
Hi colleen shipkowski
When I re-read your question, it seemed to me that you used to have a sandbox, but now do not.
Unless your Canvas Admin (and depending on the school, teachers) purposely deletes them, no Canvas course ever goes away. Have you checked "All Course" from your Courses drop-down menu? I may be that you still have your sandbox, and it is just no longer displaying on your dashboard.
Also, many schools permit faculty to create their own sandboxes and other course shells. The way to see if you have that permission is to again click on "All courses" then see if you have the +Course button on the upper right, as in the screenshot below..........
I hope this helps,
I requested IT to give me a new sandbox, which they have.
Here's the deal;
I see the sandbox in ALL COURSES and can enter into it, but I cannot edit anything, nor can I move it to the dashboard because when I was using it, I was setting up a mock course to be taught online in the future, but I used 2019 as the ending date for the mock course so now somehow I don't have access to it, possibly because of that date I put in. I suppose I can ask IT for access to it but I haven't gotten to that as the semester is already in full swing and I just needed a box to throw quizzes in to see the how the online quiz was running before publishing in the course for students to use.
Thanks for your interest, Canvas Community is one of the very cool aspects of Canvas!
