My students have submitted a paper. Some submissions come up in a format that allows me to annotate - others don't - any ideas? Thanks
Hi Barbara Norris - I have heard of cases where a file will not be rendered in the DocViewer in Canvas (which are outlined here: What types of files can be previewed in Canvas? ) but once it's rendered the only case that I, at least, am aware of where it cannot be annotated is if you allowed text entry as an option in addition to file upload. That is mentioned on that same page in the blue area at the top:
Annotation tools are not available for text entry assignments.
It's not going to help you with this specific assignment, but I would recommend that in the future you do not allow students to submit a text entry if annotating an assignment is important for you and the type of feedback that you wish to provide.
I hope this helps a bit, Barbara....at least for future assignments.
If the submission is pdf files, Canvas allows annotating, unless the pdf file is protected. I am fairly sure that annotating is not allowed in text entries.
I have tested the images and pdfs which works for me. We do not really want text entries so rather than typing we request to write in notebooks and send an image or pdf it, which encourages students to write as well.
Hope this helps.
