For some reason the buttons for adding comments, highlighting, strike through, etc. are unavailable in one of my canvas assignment in speed grader. How can I make them available?
Hi Peter Robinson Welcome to the Canvas Community! I am 99% certain that the issue is caused by the fact that the student submitting it as a text entry rather than as a file, such as a Word document or PDF. If you check this online lesson in the blue area at the top, it is stated:
Annotation tools are not available for text entry assignments.
While there is nothing you'll be able to do with the specific assignment in question this time, my recommendation is that in the future you do not enable the checkbox for Text Entries when setting up the assignment, and only allow File Uploads, assuming that you are fairly certain all your students have a compatible word processing program.
I hope this is the issue at play, Peter. (If not, it may be time to contact Canvas support via Help>>Report a Problem.)
Actually, it is only available as a “File Upload” and issue is with all the submissions for this assignment.
My apologies, Peter! I read "one of my assignments" as "one submission for an assignment." Hmmm. Sometimes when I have seen that issue in the past it just magically resolves itself after a few hours. If not, after trying a different browser (always a good idea, just to be sure) as well as clearing the browser cache, it may indeed be time to contact Canvas support.
Hi there, Peter Robinson...
I am reviewing some of the older questions here in the Canvas Community, and I stumbled upon your question. I'm glad to see that you've been getting some help from Ken Black! Have you had an opportunity to review his most recent feedback that he left you on March 5, 2019? Did any of his replies ultimately help to answer your question? For example, did you reach out to Canvas tech support as he suggested? If you could please come back to this topic to provide us with an update, that would be wonderful. Also, if you feel that one of the above responses has helped to answer your question, please feel free to click "Mark Correct" beside on of those replies. For the time being, I am going to mark your question as "Assumed Answered"...mainly because there hasn't been any new activity in this topic for over six months. However, that won't prevent you or others from posting additional questions and/or comments below that are related to this topic. I hope that's alright with you, Peter. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon!
