I'm trying to move files from 'my account' to 'files' or 'module' in a course
Good morning, janet Lyon Welcome to the Canvas Community. Thank you for posting your question. First, I wanted to let you know that I have modified the subject line of your question and pasted it into the body of this message instead of having it in the subject line. (You only had the word "I" in the body of your message.) So, I hope it's okay with you that I did this.
Now, let's get to the question at hand. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way that you'd be able to move files from your personal files via "Account" >> "Files" to a different area such as course "Files" or as a file listed in a module of a course. If you have local copies of those files on your computer's hard drive, you will need to re-upload those files (and possibly create folders for organization) in the course "Files" area of your course. Then you can go to your "Modules" screen and insert those files wherever you need to. A second option, if you didn't have local copies of those files, would be to download the files from your "Account" >> "Files" area, and then upload them to the course "Files" area.
I hope this information is helpful to you, Janet. Please let Community members know if you have any questions about this...thanks!
All of Chris' suggestions are good, and if you zipped up all of the files from your computer with all of the folders, I believe Canvas will unzip the whole lot and create the folder structure. But, after some digging, I believe you can move/copy files from your personal files area into any course where you are an instructor.
Now, you can do this same process minus a few steps at the beginning by just going to your profile and clicking the files link and start at step 3 above.
Hope this helps.
