Some of our teachers are using groups very extensively.
They created many group sets. Some of them allow self sign-up, others don't. Some of them are still in use, others have been created for activities that have been completed. Often they give the groups logical names (not just the name of the group set with a number).
At the beginning of the term everything is simple, but when more groups sets are created, it becomes very complicated for students to find the groups they can still sign up for.
Canvas will show all the groups in a long list (one teacher has more than 300 groups with unique names). Students can only pick a group during self sign up (which is turned off after a few days), but all the groups will still be visible under the group tab. They will be locked, but will still confuse students.
Canvas will not load all the groups on a static page, but will only load more groups when you scroll to the bottom of the page. It will take a long time to find groups the student can participate in. Some students don't even manage to do this.
Is it possible to hide groups that students can't pick? Groups should only show groups that a student did signup for, or that a student can signup for. How can this be done?
