How do you change the order of your Pages?
If you are looking at changing the order of your pages on the Pages tool, this will have to be done by changing the names of each page. The Pages are displayed alphabetically, so you will need to add a number to the front of each page name if you want to rearrange them on the Pages tool. If you are using Modules or you can create a "landing" page and place each page inthe order that you want.
While you can't change the order of your pages to anything, you can sort them by Name, Creation Date, and Last Edit Date. Check out the section on sorting in How do I use the Pages Index Page?
I'm baffled. When you are in Modules and you want to pull an existing page into a Module, you DO NOT have an alphabetical list of your pages. You have a list of pages based on when they were created - such that the last page you created is at the top of your list. So if you are searching for a page that you created a long time ago, you have a huge challenge. And if you are building your pages in pages - and logically moving from beginning to end - the list of pages you see when you go to pull your pages in is in reverse order. This makes no sense - right? Why can't you arrange your pages as you would like to see them in pages and then have that arrangement "stick" when you go to access them from Modules?
Am I missing something? Is there secret way to make this happen? A Canvancement, perhaps?
Canvancements aren't intended to be secret ways, there is a list of them in the Community: Canvancements - Canvas Enhancements
If you peruse the list, there is a link to a blog post I wrote 2 years ago to the day (August 26, 2015) that was one of my early works How to List Items Alphabetically when Adding to a Module. It was back before I understood how to write user scripts for the masses and it required that the user customize it to work on their site, but it did what you're talking about.
I don't use this because I actually like my most recent pages at one end, it makes it easier for me to find, so I wasn't sure if it still worked. I just now installed it and it still works. While I was at it, I took the time to update to to a Canvancement that is easier for people to install.
Here is a direct installation link for those who already have a user script manager loaded: sort-content-selector.user.js
I'll get the blog post updated to reflect the updated version.
I know Canvancements are not secret - it's just a secret until you find what you need. (smile) I had not scrutinized the list for this - should have known you had it covered. Although I'd sure like to hear from the Canvas folks as to why it works as it does. My Greasemonkey is ready and waiting.. Much thanks!
