It would be cool if there was a crossword template on here that the kids could instead of on paper.
There isn't a native way to do crosswords in Canvas. However Canvas allows for users to use embed code on their pages. You might try to find an online crossword generator that has an embed code to place onto a page. The embed code will need to use a secure URL or your students will have to jump through some hoops to use. You'll know if the URL is secure if it starts with https:// instead of http://

Hi Rachel Wheeler...
Have you heard of a software program called Hot Potatoes? Here is a link to their website. Hot Potatoes Home Page I'll admit that it's been several years since I've used their software, but I do know that you can create crosswords puzzles to use online. I've not tried inside of Canvas, but I recall from our previous LMS, Pearson eCollege's LearningStudio, that we were able to embed the crossword puzzle code into a course page, and students could complete it. (Not really submitting it to the instructor, though...it was more of a fun, learning activity for the students). You might want to give it a try and see if it works for your needs.
I use an application called SoftChalk Cloud. It is a pay applications, but it marvelously integrates with Canvas. Not only can you create crosswords, but they have a whole array of activities you can create. You can also create lessons or entire courses, all of which can not only be easily embedded into Canvas, but can also be linked to your Canvas gradebooks.
Here is a link to find out more: SoftChalk CLOUD
Again, it requires a paid subscription, but it is cheaper by far than Camtasia or Articulate, and much much easier to learn.
