Implementing time sheets or hour accounting in an internship course

Good day Canvas Community!

In all three of my programs, students are required to enroll in an internship class. In addition to the required coursework, they the need to log 128 hours of OJT (On the job training) for their internship.

Previously, students filled out an Excel spreadsheet that had one sheet per week, where they enter various information.  One of the entries on the spreadsheet is “hours worked this week”. This entry adds up from sheet to sheet, allowing the student to track how many hours they have worked on a week by week basis.

I would like to implement this in Canvas, by creating a self-tabulating assignment to show the student and myself their weekly progress toward that hourly goal.

Ideally, each week the student would go to a page in that week’s module and enter their hours worked.  Upon submission, it would record the hours and show a total of hours worked to that point.

At the end of the semester, I would apply the assigned points for that share of the final grade.

Hoping someone has an idea on how to implement this.
