How can I use Canvas for young learners (kindergarten and first grade)?
Wow, Kim Miller , really? I mean, that is a rather broad question, and likely the answers could form the basis of a nice two-year degree program!
But hey, before I get away with myself, Kim Welcome to the Canvas Community!
I will start you out by recommending that you join and follow the K-12 focus group in this community. We have been hearing about some awesome strategies, along with some challenges, and these are the folks who are living it every day, and will be a very useful resource for you.
I did find this great course in the Canvas Network, but it has closed. However, I strongly suspect it will open again, so you might want to check it out at Teaching English to Young Learners (K-12) - Canvas Network | Free online courses | MOOCs
Then, there is this Canvas with the Littles. this one comes with an awesome quote that I deeply agree with " Teaching our students without the use of technology is only preparing them for yesterday!"
And then there are some cool videos.....................
I hope this is a helpful start, and I suspect you will be greatly surprised how well your youngest students do with Canvas.
Great question Kim. And it's super to see teachers of our younger students seeing potential within Canvas. Kelley has linked you to a load of really cool resources.
I presented some ideas to a K-6 school recently with a writing focus. Here are the ideas from that. Invigorating English – Encouraging Writing Within Canvas K-6
I hope they help! Sing out if you need a hand.
Wow, Bobby Pedersen! This sounds cool, and I need to check it.
