I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience where specifically PDF files are not being copied to the new course under modules. The files have been copied but under the modules, they have been removed.
Hi, James Lane and Welcome to the Canvas Community! Actually, that 500-day figure to which Marie refers pertains to the course export file—not to the course files themselves. I have courses that are over six years old and can still import the course files from those courses should I choose to do so. However, if I were to create a course export file from one of those six-year-old courses and fail to download it within the 500-day period, the export file would disappear.
You might want to initiate a ticket with Canvas support to see why the PDFs associated with the course are not coming over with the course import.
Hi James Lane! Canvas does not retain/store files more than 500 days old. You may have gotten this message when running your course copy: Content import files cannot be downloaded after 500 days.
This thread may help further answer your question:
As far as placing the PDFs into the module themselves - you can choose to select all content when running a course copy, or select specific content. If you choose specific, you will need to select both the module and the file from that screen in order to copy it.
Hope this helps!
